Unlike therabands and other elastic products, a stretch strap is sturdy enough not to significantly lengthen with applied force. It is made of similar material to automotive searbelts, and usually sewn to have multiple loops along it's length to allow for some variation in it use, as the loop positions can not be adjusted.

It is most frequently seen trying splits and leg extensions.
