Cobra

भुजङ्गासन (Sanskrit, Bhujangasana, “Cobra Pose”)

Also: Sarpasana

A Backbend. Lying face down, the majority of the trunk is raised from the ground, arms kept straight, keeping the hips against the ground, isolating most of the stretch to the lower back.

A Flying Cobra is when this backbend is held without the support of the arms; the bend of the spine is enough to keep the center of gravity over the legs, while not enough to let the back or shoulders touch the legs.

Compare to sphinx.
