Ruppel Backbend

Also: Ruppel Bend

Name claimed by Alina Ruppel

A standing backbend where the shoulders are drawn through the thighs. The arms are braced against the legs, with the shoulders clearly pushed past the plane of the thighs.

There is a slightly more advanced version where the arms are extended to parallel the legs. While this is not the original version, Alina preferred it as capstone for many years.

“While working with Alina Ruppel on [July] 27th in 2009 I had the idea for this pose, and she immediately made it! So I called it “Ruppel-Backbend” and it's still the best in the world! Congratulations to those who tried to reach the same level, but all couldn't.” - Gerd Rasquin\grassy2000, Ruppel family friend & contortion coach, NOT Alina's regular coach
